Alfa Romeo Tipo 103 Prototipo

The Type 103 prototype is an experiment carried out by Alfa Romeo between 1959 and 1961 in order to launch a small car engine capacity and small size. With the Type 103 Prototype Alfa wanted to enter the market for small cars, which at that time in the hands of the famous Fiat 600.
The 'Type 103 Prototype is a car with front wheel drive, small capacity, the project for the new car, attended by the likes of technical Rudolf Hruska Puliga Orazio Satta and Giuseppe Busso.
The result was a four-door sedan, driven by in-line four-cylinder engine of 896 cc 52 hp at 5500 rpm with double overhead camshafts in the head, and placed transversely with exchange synchronized four-speed and reverse. The
type 103 Prototype was an innovative model with a transverse engine and front wheel drive it was a real novelty in Alfa.
The front wheel of the Type 103 prototype was made by oscillating drive shafts and CV joints. Setting style vaguely reminiscent of that of the Giulia saloon, and also influenced the creation of the Renault 8. The Type 103 Prototype
never came into production because the house was engaged in other productive sectors, the project was revived in 1967 but was shelved soon as you were working on the model Alfasud.
Del Type 103 Prototype project is only a copy retained historical museum at the company, and three engines.
